Lion Dance at Hotel Sentral4th Mar 2010
At Hotel Sentral Kuala Lumpur, more than 80 guests were thrilled and excited as they were entertained to a spectacular lion dance performance by the 20-member troupe from Kong Ngai Lion Dance Association at the hotel's main entrance.
Tourists, hotel guests especially foreigners and onlookers crowds around the two lions as they prance to the beat of the drums, cymbals and gong. The lions then went on to bless the hotel’s Starmint coffee house, Sentro lounge, kitchen, meeting rooms, offices and finally to the lobby. Many also took the opportunity to pose with the lions and take photographs of the performance.
A special appearance by the God of Prosperity adds to the spirit of Chinese New Year as he greeted the hotel guests with messages of good luck, prosperity, good health, happiness and divine blessings as he distributed red packets, mandarin oranges and fortune cookies.
Hotel Sentral Kuala Lumpur General Manager, Ronny Wong received a platter of lettuce leaves, mandarin oranges and pomelo from the lions at the end of the performance. According to Mr. Wong, traditional entertainment staged especially during Chinese New Year is one of the main attractions for guests, as the lion dance is a symbolic ritual to ward off the evil spirits and to usher in good luck and prosperity to a great new year. This is the first year the hotel is holding this auspicious performance since its opening in June 2009.
